1999 Flood - "Pfingsthochwasser"
Continuous rainfall in early May is followed by torrential rain from May 20th to 22nd. In the Danube catchment, the run-off rain water causes extremly high water levels at the southern tributaries Iller, Ammer and Isar. The highest levels at the Danube occur between the mouth of the Lech River and Regensburg. An economic damage of more than 400 million Euros in Germany and another 360 million in Austria and Switzerland is mostly caused by levee breaches. At least six people die during this flood event.
