flood
Condition of surface water (river, lake, ocean), in which the water level or the discharge (or both) exceeds a certain (average or "normal") value. This does not necessarily result in flooding. In tidal waters the term high tide refers to the highest water level at the turn of the tide. Floods can be divided into periodic floods (tides, riverine floods in spring) and sporadic or unique events (e.g. Tsunami, storm surge, 100-year flood on a river).
