macroseismic intensity

The macroseismic intensity I represents a classification of the strength of ground motion based on observed effects in a limited area like a town. The perceptible effects of the ground motion as well as different loss severities concerning structures of distinct vulnerability classes form a basis for the estimation of macroseismic intensity (cp. European Macroseismic Scale EMS-98).
