Earthquakes Glossary

hazard zone

Areas at the surface of the earth with a similar hazard level with respect of a certain hazard. By grading areas in various hazard zones, it is possible to represent areas with a higher or lower hazard. Hazard zones are used, among other things, for laying down special construction requirements and for calculating insurance premiums.
