Earthquake Data Collector - Equator

After strong earthquakes relevant scientific and non-scientific information about the event is desired as fast as possible. A prototype of a web-based Earthquake Data Collector - Equator has been developed to perform this compilation process semi-automatically. Equator represents a wiki-like Content Management System (CMS) for earthquake-events to support scientists to gather available information on the World Wide Web. The operative version of Equator

  • automatically collects information in a database from GEOFON, USGS, EMSC, WAPMERR and other webservices
  • allows a distributed data access (many users may access the info simultanously)
  • allows the manual integration of additional information as texts, documents, links to relevant sites
  • keeps track about the date and time (version) when the information had been collected

Equator is  online accessible.
