Floods in Southeastern Africa

In the southeastern part of Africa, during the ongoing rain season, above-average precipitation led to widespread flooding along rivers in Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Burundi und Tanzania. At the end of February, the situation was additionally intensified by the cyclone Favio. An easening of tension cannot be expected before the end of the rain season in April.

Up to now, the country affected most by the floods has been Mozambique, where, according to reports of the National Institute for Disaster Managment INGC, more than 160,000 people were displaced by the water masses of the Zambezi and other rivers. Numerous international organisations like UNICEF, WHO and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) ensure the supply of the population with food, tents and medical aid.
