First meeting of the NaDiNe tsunami experts group
On February 22, 2006, the first Meeting of the NaDiNe tsunami experts group took place at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen. Participants were scientists from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), the German Aerospace Center, GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ), and the GKSS Research Center Geesthacht.
Most of the participating experts are involved in the currently ongoing construction of the Tsunami Early Warning System (TEWS) for the Indian Ocean. In collaboration with representatives of the NaDiNe project team, the scientists of the Helmholtz Association's reseach centers developed approaches and procedures to allow the provision of information for the scientific support in case of a tsunami event. The central topic of the discussion was how to benefit from the expertise of the group members and their scientific colleagues and how to use it in order to provide information and data products.
With the tsunami experts group, now there exist three scientific teams, each concentrating on a specific risk, within the NaDiNe project. Two more expert groups (working on oil spills as well as on storms and storm surges) will follow in March and April respectively.
