NaDiNe earthquakes expert group founded
On January 20, 2006, the constituent meeting of the NaDiNe experts group working in the earthquake domain was held at the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ). The meeting was attended by experts of the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI).
In collaboration with representatives of the NaDiNe project team, the earthquake experts of the Helmholtz Association's reseach centers developed approaches and procedures to allow the provision of earthquake-related information for the scientific support of ongoing crisis events. The central topic of the discussion was how to benefit from the expertise of the group members and their scientific colleagues and how to use it in order to provide information and data products. Furthermore, the first version of a task schedule for the response to future, catastrophic earthquake events was developed.
Having founded the flood experts team already in November, 2005, further teams, covering the domains of tsunamis, oil spills as well as storms and storm surges, will gather for their constituent meetings during the next months.
